Minneapolis, Cincinnati Agree to Trade
Thursday, December 14th, 2023
You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you find a deal anyway. The Baseball News Network is reporting that Minneapolis and Cincinnati have made a swap with 33-year-old 2B Pete Hebert being shipped to the Rebels and in return the Mutiny would get 28-year-old RHP Luis Martínez, 22-year-old minor league RHP John Geldard and $60,000 in cash.
The Cincinnati general manager said the two sides were close to a blockbuster trade before agreeing upon a smaller scale transaction. "This is just a bit of housekeeping compared to what we wanted to do," he said. "I won't name names, but the potential deal we were close to making would have certainly grabbed some headlines." A source inside the Minneapolis organization said the two sides might not be done dealing, and another transaction could be in the works.
Lifetime Hebert is hitting .245 with 41 doubles, 9 triples, 7 home runs, 79 RBIs and 124 runs scored. He has appeared in 250 games to date and delivered 196 hits.
Martínez has posted a career 6-and-7 record with 6 saves and a 3.58 ERA.
