2007 World Series MVP: Atlanta v. Omaha

The 2007 Stroh's World Series MVP Award goes to.....

RF BOB MORGAN, ATL.  Round of Applause!

You can have the best pitching in the world but at the end of the day, you can't win without scoring.  Bob Morgan was able to give the sometimes anemic Atlanta offense a huge spark in the World Series.  Morgan was able to hit in all 6 games of the series and had 2 or more hits in 5 of the 6 games.  Morgan ended up hitting 12-29 .414, 5 R, 7 RBI, and 2 HR during the series against the Omaha Wolverines.  His biggest performance came in the clinching Game 6 when Morgan went 2-5 with 1 R, 1 HR, and 4 RBI with a GRAND SLAM in the 6th off of Ed Ware.  That put the dagger in the back of Omaha and earned Morgan the Player of the Game honors.  Morgan joins teammate Dan Weeden as another member of the World Series MVP fraternity.  Rest easy this offseason with unlimited Stroh's kegs, Bob Morgan!

2007 ALCS MVP: Omaha v. Washington

SP DANIEL BALLEW, OMA.  Round of Applause.

Ballew becomes one of the more interesting Postseason MVPs in a while, mostly because of his horrible 1st outing in the ALCS.  In Game 3 the Admirals beat Ballew up for 5 ER in 2.2 IP and went on to win 15-6 and go up 3-0 in the Series.  However, the Omaha players and fans started chanting a mantra that won't soon be forgotten in Wolverine Nation -- "WE BELIEVE."  Omaha would go on to win the next 3 games, mostly on the strength of their Starting Pitchers.  Game 7 brought Ballew back to the limelight as he would once again face James Beauregard in the pressure packed Game 7 at Seattle.  Ballew defied all doubts and pitched 8.0 IP, 1 ER, and 2 Hits, despite tying AL Postseason record with 8 BBs.  Several other Wolverine players made a great case for MVP (Vinson, Bane, E. Gilmore) yet none stepped up in as big of moment as Ballew did and came through like Ballew did.  It's been a long road for Daniel Ballew who was once mocked repeatedly for his...well, shittiness to be frank, but he has rebounded and become an Omaha Hero.  Here's a quart of Stroh's for you, Ballew.

SP JOSE "ALIBI" DE LA GARZA, ATL.  Round of Applause!

Really this Award should have been awarded to the rotation as a whole, they each went out and pitched great.  In Games 1,2, and 3 the Atlanta SP was the Player of the Game.  De La Garza won because, not only was his performance the best, but it also set the tone for the series v. SF.  De La Garza came out in Game 1 matched up with Karl Beatty and proceed to throw 8 IP, 1 ER, and 7 K's to get Atlanta the win.  De La Garza, along with Johnson and Caldwell, have been spot on this postseason.  So, although Alibi gets the Award, Stroh's is sending an ice cold keg to the Atlanta clubhouse for De La Garza, Johnson, and Caldwell.  Do a keg stand boys and get primed up to watch the Omaha/Washington series.

2007 NLDS MVP: Atlanta v. Pittsburgh

1B DAN WEEDEN, ATL.  Round of Applause!

Like every other Divisional Series in 2007, Atlanta went through Pittsburgh with little trouble.  The MVP decision is a little tougher as three players make a great case.  DH Scott Hunter won the Player of the Game in Game 4 and Game 5 but was hitless in the first 3 games.  George "Shameless" Johnson had 2 big Wins and both outings were solid but far from dominant.  1B Dan Weeden was steadily consistent through all 5 games but never had a WOW! moment.  However, Atlanta was able to depend on Weeden for their offensive production, who's making a name for himself as a Postseason player after winning the World Series MVP in 2005.  Weeden did win Player of the Game in Game 2 and got a Hit and RBI/Run in every game of the series.  His totals were 8-19, 5 R, 8 RBI, and 2 HRs including a big go ahead HR in the 3rd inning of Game 2.  Enjoy an ice cold Stroh's beer while sitting and staring at your two Postseason trophies, Dan.

SS KERRY LARSON.  Round of Applause!

Larson was able to overcome a hitless Game 1 to explode all over Detroit pitching and lead the SeaWolves offense in production and clutch hitting.  Many fans may be surprised that the 2 win Star Pitcher, Pedro Medellin, was not awarded the MVP but it's almost impossible to argue against Larson's 11 RBI series where he hit .533 and put up a 1.379 ERA.  Most notably was what Larson was able to do in the clinching Game 5.  Larson went 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, and 5 RBI.  With SF down 1-0 in the top of the 8th Larson came up with a huge clutch single that drove in 2 runs to take the lead.  He followed that up in the top of the 9th with a 2 run double to give SF an even bigger lead.  You might want to give half of your Stroh's cold beer to Mr. Pedro, but you earned the right to be called NLDS MVP, enjoy your Stroh's.

RF AUSTIN "SEMI" HORTON.  Round of Applause!

Horton got a lot of competition for this award from teammate James Bearegard who made 2 great starts.  However, no player was more directly involved with the Admiral's success in this series than Horton.  He set the tone for the series in Game 1 by going 3-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, with 2 Home Runs and garnering the Player of the Game.  In the next 3 games he never had less than 2 hits and at least a Run, in fact in Game 3 Horton started both scoring rallies in the 6th and 7th inning when Washington did it's damage.  Horton's series totals look like this:  9-20 .450, 3 HR, 6 R, 6 RBI, 3 BB, and a 1.400 OPS.  Horton started the series with a fire lit under his ass because he had something to prove for missing last year's postseason. Well Stroh's likes to reward downed soldiers who return back to the battlefield, here's 2 Stroh's buddy, down one for last season.

C CLAY VINSON, OMA.  Round of Applause!

Vinson came up big for the Wolverine offense in their retribution series sweep against the Washington DC Diplomats.  His cumulative series totals were 7-16, 3 R, 4 RBI, 2 2Bs, 1 HR, .438 BA and a 1.194 OPS.  But Vinson really won the Award with his Game 2 performance when he went 3-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, and a major HR that won him the Player of the Game.  In a very tight and crucial Game 2 Vinson came to bat in the Bottom of the 8th with 1 out and the Wolverines down 4-3, Vinson blasted a game tying HR off of Kenny Williams to bring the Wolverines back.  They would again score in the bottom of the 9th to win 5-4 and go up 2-0 on DC.  More importantly, that game more than any, demoralized the Diplomats.  So, enjoy one of our "Billy Martin Signature Stroh's" cans, Wolverine Catcher!
